What is Vision 2030 Jamaica?

Vision 2030 Jamaica is our country’s first long-term strategic development plan designed to secure a prosperous future for all Jamaicans, by 2030. This plan is guiding our country’s development to 2030 and sets a clear vision as stated in the National Vision Statement: “Jamaica, the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business.”

The achievement of Vision 2030 Jamaica will result in a vibrant and internationally competitive economy, a cohesive society, and a healthy environment; a high level of human capital development; greater opportunities for social and economic mobility and prosperity; and a high level of human security.

This development will be sustainable and inclusive — engaging all Jamaicans in the process to achieve, sustain and build on our development goals; and providing equitable opportunities for present and future generations to benefit from development.

Vision 2030 Jamaica encompasses four social, economic and environmental development goals. Tangibly, Jamaicans will be able to identify the accomplishment of these goals through the achievement of 15 National Outcomes, which cover areas central to the survival and growth of the individual, family, community and wider society. These development outcomes include health, education and training, poverty reduction, culture, a stable macro-economy and strong economic infrastructure, sustainable urban and rural development, and international competitiveness in industries such as manufacturing, the creative industries, tourism and sport.

Since 2009, we have been pursuing strategies and actions intended to advance our development towards achieving the goals and outcomes of Vision 2030 Jamaica. While this has been largely led by state Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the private sector, academia, civil society and our international development partners have played critical roles in advancing Jamaica’s development and keeping the country on a path towards sustainable prosperity.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an interdependent set of 17 “broad and universal” development goals with 169 targets, which represent consensus and an urgent call for action by all countries to achieve sustainable and inclusive development by 2030.  Vision 2030 Jamaica is a plan for achieving sustainable development in Jamaica and, like the SDGs, addresses the three dimensions of sustainability — social, economic and environmental. The SDGs are an agenda to advance People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership (5Ps). This is not dissimilar to the overarching vision for Jamaica and our national goals and outcomes as well as our country’s guiding principles. This landmark agreement envisions the creation of a better world that is free of poverty and underpinned by universal peace and where “no one is left behind”. “Vision 2030 Jamaica…advancing the achievement of the SDGs…leaving no one behind!”
